Novenas

A novena is a prayer repeated nine times (usually, but not always, over consecutive days) to gain a special favor from God. The first novena followed Christ's Ascension, culminating in Pentecost (Acts 1). There are numerous Marian novenas with varied emphasis, many of which have distinct prayers for each day.
